The horse comes first.
At the vet gate, the question is not just how fast a horse has travelled. It is whether the horse is fit to continue.
Heart-rate recovery
Veterinarians assess how the horse’s heart rate recovers after exertion. Meeting the applicable recovery requirements is one part of the inspection.
Metabolic condition
The inspection considers hydration, recovery and general condition—not heart rate alone.
Gait and soundness
The horse is assessed in motion for irregularities. Veterinary decisions protect the horse’s welfare throughout the ride, including at the final inspection.

Each loop returns to the village for veterinary assessment before continuing. Approved hold times will be published with the final event information.
